Freecast is a toggleable passive feature and an Illithid Power. This ability allows the character to not spend any spell slots, charges or any other similar resource cost for the next action per Long Rest.

Description

You have discovered a marvellous adaptability within yourself. Spell slots, charges, and similar resource costs for your next action or spell are removed. Refreshes after a Long Rest.

How to learn

Other ways to learn:

Notes

  • If the player character with Freecast has every equipment slot occupied and unequips anything, Freecast comes back - even if already used and not having Long Rested. In other words, one can infinitely use Freecast for every action out of combat. During combat, reequiping takes an action so one cannot (re)use Freecast during the same round. (seems fixed in patch 8?)
  • If an action takes more than one type of resource (e.g., Metamagic Quicken Spell with any spell that is not a cantrip), both costs are removed.
  • Prior to Patch 6, this feature did not remove Channel Oath costs.

Bugs

  • When fast traveling between areas that require a load screen (In between Act 1 and 2, or in between Lower City / Rivington) freecast, as well as many other abilites, may have their "cooldown" reset.
    • This can allow for multiple freecast uses in a day, which can be incredibly useful for Buffs/Summons requiring high level spell slots such as Heroes' Feast Heroes' Feast, Planar Ally Planar Ally, and more.
